DIY Fleece Blankets

By Gabrielle Tate

  1. Choose a theme and then pick your fabric at the local craft store. There is an array of themes such as sports, princess, flowers…. the list is endless!!
  2. You will need two pieces of fleece cloth the length of your recipient. Give the associate as precise of measurements as possible.
  3. Stack the fabric and fleece cloths on top of each other with the wrong sides facing each other. Trim off any unnecessary ends so that the two fabrics are the same size (you may want to use a ruler or a rotary cuter to make the lines more accurate).
  4. Cut tiny squares in each corner of the blanket about 3-4 inches.
  5. Cut slits about 3 inches deep all the way around the fabric (like the fringe look). Make sure the slits are not too short otherwise you will not be able to tie them accurately. Be sure to cut through both pieces of fabric while they are layered together so that you have the same number of slits all around.
  6. Finally, tie the matching top and bottom slits in double knots until you have made your way all around the blanket. Now you have created a unique, personal gift which your loved one will cherish forever.
